SPARKLING CHICHA

As part of his performance project Sparkling Chicha, artist Rodrigo Alarcon will be offering the audience a variation of Chicha, a South American beverage. He will do so within a gallery space containing elements that reference where and how the drink is produced and consumed.

An ancestral drink with deep historical roots, the beverage is still produced today in areas like the Cochamamba valley in Bolivia, where Alarcon is from. Though not exclusively, Chicha frequently contains alcohol resulting from a corn fermentation process.

The artist will be serving a carbonated version of the beverage thus toying with the idea of Americanizing the drink. The work not only questions the impact of global economic forces on regional cultures but also considers how concepts of integration, progress and popular culture can displace and transform meaning.

Rodrigo Alarcon Moscoso (1992) - Bolivian artist with a degree in architecture Universidad Mayor de San Simon. Como parte de su proyecto performatico "Sparkling Chicha " el artista Rodrigo Alarcon ofrece al público una variación de Chicha, una bebida Sudamericana.

Recreando en el espacio de la galería temas referentes a su producción y consumo.

Una bebida ancestral con profundas raíces históricas sigue siendo producida en áreas como los valles de Cochabamba en Bolivia. Producto derivado del maíz y no necesariamente contiene alcohol.

El artista servirá una versión carbonatada satirizando la idea de popularizar esta bebida en E.E.U.U.

El trabajo no solo cuestiona el impacto de las fuerzas económicas globales sobre las culturas regionales si no también considera que conceptos de integración, progreso y cultura popular pueden desplazar y transformar significados propios.
